Start Here: The S.O.A.P. Method for Bible Study
Dear Reader,
If you have felt overwhelmed by where to begin with Bible journaling or how to really study Scripture in a meaningful way- you're not alone. We all start somewhere, and I want to introduce to you one of the most simple and yet powerful tools I've used on my journey: the S.O.A.P. Method.
S.O.A.P. is a beginner-friendly way to dig into God's word while also leaving space for prayer, reflection, and journaling. It's more than just reading; it's about listening, learning, and letting God's truth shape your heart and life.
S- Scripture: Write out a verse or passage that stands out to you. Slow down and read it carefully. This is the anchor for your study- God's word, alive and active. Whether it's a few verse or a chapter, choose something that speaks to you.
"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." Psalm 119:105
O- Observation: What do you notice? How does this Scripture apply to your life today? Are there repeated words or themes? Jot down what stands out and what you think God is revealing. This is where you're simply being curious and attentive.
A- Application: Now it gets personal. How does this Scripture apply to your life today? Is there something God is inviting you to do, change, believe or trust? This is where transformation begins- with obedience and openness.
P-Prayer: End your time in prayer. Thank God for His Word and ask Him to help you live it out. Your prayer doesn't have to be long or fancy-just honest.
This method has been a beautiful place to begin in my own Bible journaling journey. It offers structure without pressure and invites intimacy without complexity.
At Salt & Snow Co., we're all about helping women and men of all ages find simple, beautiful ways to engage in Scripture. That's why we've created printable S.O.A.P. worksheets and guides to make getting started easy and meaningful. Whether you're seasoned believer or just opening up your Bible for the first time, this method is for you.
Let this be your invitation-to slow down, soak in the Word, and hear the gentle whisper of God's voice.
With grace and purpose,
